This paint color is designed as a 2 stage system, which means it doesn't require a specific undercoat. This makes this paint color beginner friendly and much easier to spray and match vs a tri-stage. All of our OEMatch Basecoats require a Gray AP-7541g Sealer as the ground coat and then needs to be topped with one of our Alpha Automotive Clearcoats for the gloss and protection. This Alpha Automotive Basecoat offers smooth application, consistent coverage, and a true OEM finish. Perfect for spot repairs, panel resprays, or full restorations.

How to build a paint kit:
On the website we have a paint kit builder that allows you to choose what you are painting and we create a complete cart to make sure you get all of the paint components needed for your project!.
Build Your Own Paint kit and choose just the items and quantities you need for your project.
All OEMatch Basecoats require our Gray AP-7541g Sealer as the ground coat and then needs to be topped with one of our Alpha Automotive Clearcoats. Please make sure you at least get those for your project.
2-stage paint application:
Decide the panels that need to be painted / blended into. With OEM paint, you want to blend into surrounding panels to guarantee a good match and final result.
Clean all panels you plan to paint with wax & grease remover or isopropyl alcohol
Complete any bodywork and high build priming as needed
Sand the panels with 600 grit or a gray scuff pad to make sure there is no shiny areas
Reclean the panels with wax & grease remover or isopropyl alcohol
If complete panel replacement: Seal the replacement panel completely and blend into the surrounding panels as needed with our AP-7541g Gray Sealer If spot repair on an OEM painted panel: Spot seal the repair area with our AP-7541g Gray Sealer, blending into the panel to have a slow transition of sealer into the sanded factory paint *Allow the sealer to air dry for 1hour (after dry to touch) before moving on.
Spray 2-4 coats of OEMatch Basecoat , blending into the surrounding panels or the OEM sanded finish if doing a spot repair. You are looking for full coverage and effect. You are ready to spray the next basecoat layer when the finish is “matte” and dry to the touch. PRO TIP: You can check masking with a gloved finger to confirm its dry
Once you have full paint coverage and are happy with your blends, wait 1 hour and move on to the next step: Clearcoat!
Follow the mixing ratios on the Alpha Automotive Clearcoat and then spray 2-3 medium wet coats on the complete panels. This will encapsulate the blended paint and give the entire panel fresh clearcoat that has deep gloss and protection.
Pro Tip: Recoat clearcoat when the previous coat is “fingerprinty” - you can check this by touching surrounding masking. Usually about 10 mins
Let dry for at least 8 hours - then unmask / assemble!
What is blending?
Blending (also called "feathering out" or "melting in") means you gradually taper your new basecoat outward so that the metallic orientation, pearl load, and color tone flow naturally into the existing OEM finish. Instead of stopping the color at a hard tape line, you create a smooth visual transition. The clearcoat then covers the entire panel (or the blend area + full panel), locking everything in and making the repair seamless.

The base coat sprayed like glass, I haven't used anything like that sinve ChromaLusion came out back in the 90's. The tank I sprayed looked amazing with no texture at all thanks to the flat badecoat! My handle on Instagram is Daytona43, Thanks!

Glamour clear takes some getting used to spraying. Worked best for me to reduce 10%.
Wet sands easily, and then buffs to a beautiful shine!

I am more accustomed to painting with nitro, but these guitar kits are waaaay faster. Going from primer to midcoat to clearcoat in one day is awesome!

The guitar paint kit was great, but I do have a few suggestions. The guitar body still needed to be sprayed with a separate sealer as the primer wasn't enough on its own. Additionally, the clear coat orange peeled quite heavily and required additional sanding. I'd recommend a second can of clear coat for larger guitar bodies. All that said, the paint sprayed very well and the color is amazing. I will buy again but add that extra can of clear coat. :)

I needed just one can of this color which requires a base coat. I had enough base coat left and they still sold me another can of just the color so I cpuld finish the project. The paint is as perfect of a match as you will find. Great products amd great customer service. I restored a 24 year-old ATV and the rims were rusty and in bad shape, and I needed to respray them. I asked the local auto service center for a cost on removing and reinstalling the tires ($80). I went with the tire masks and just deflated the tires. The elastic band had enough tension that I could press down on the tire and it would slip between the rim and tire. Worked perfectly. I bought four masks and did reuse them for the back side of the rims. The paint flaked off the mask, but all I needed to do was blow compressed air on the rims before spraying. Excellent solution.

Used on kick panels for my 68 Pontiac Firebird. The color is very close to the factory installed interior. Application was easy and spray pattern was perfect to help prevent runs. Would recommend to friends.

This black sealer really brought out my gold way beyond my expectations. It lays down smooth if you follow the tds and optional to sand or spray after applications. Better get you some!

Everything has been great. I love this pink and will soon be purchasing my kit! Super excited. Only issue I'm having is the envelope to return the samples. They keep wanting to charge $12 for the envelope even though the label says postage paid? They say it's because of the envelope. I love being able to see the paint before purchase because the First time I painted my bike I spent more than 1K on paints I did not like. Thanks Spray Source

Everyone said just paint headstock face with a couple more coats of Primer, Then shoot 3 coats of Clear Gloss. After all of that work?!? That Face deserved TSS Pitch Black, to frame that set of Vintage Klusons. Tommy's Team understood, and they're always available to talk through any questions you may have. My Test Spray Out yielded a Black as deep as Lockness. And believe me you can afford it, I even bought extra Primer, and Gloss for the Spray Out. I had plenty of Color. Add Pitch Black to your Guitar Paint Kit from TSS,, especially if you're painting a Gibson.
