Our customer Cory ( @blkbettys13 on IG ) recently took on his first ever DIY automotive painting project using our Oahu Blue Medium Car Kit. Since he needed to do some body work, even out some flaking clearcoat, and remove some old failing paint he chose the "light body work" option of the kit. Also, since this is a drift car, we was only wanting to paint the exterior. For this reason he also chose "exterior only". Lastly, since he was painting in a heatwave he chose the "91-110°f" option when we asked what temperatures he would be spraying in! This made sure he not only got the right amount of product, but also the correct hardeners and reducers in the full paint kit! 

After a ton of hard work & following the included step by step instructions + tips & tricks card - Cory was able to absolutely transform the look of this car! After Cory sanded down the car, completed all the bodywork, and ensured everything was as smooth as possible, he applied two to three coats of HP5300 DTM Primer, specifically the HC-5312 White DTM Primer  included in his kit, using a 2.5 needle set. This step was crucial to even out the surface and prepare it for reblocking before applying the sealer.

The primer was mixed with Tamco HH-3100 Universal Primer Hardener to achieve the right viscosity for optimal application. It was applied over 150/180 grit sand scratches and then block sanded flat to create a smooth foundation for the subsequent layers.

Next, the customer starts sealing with Tamco White Forever Seal, a no-sand sealer designed to create a smooth, even base for the basecoat. This sealer was sprayed over surfaces that had been sanded with 320 grit. You can see him applying Uahu Blue over the top of the White Forever Seal.

To achieve the best consistency, the Forever Seal was also mixed with Tamco HR1300 Series Urethane Reducers (HR1380 Slow). This step ensures that the basecoat adheres properly and provides a solid base for the vibrant Oahu Blue.

With the surface prepped and sealed, it was time to spray the Oahu Blue Paint Basecoat. This vibrant color was sprayed directly over the Forever Seal.

The basecoat was mixed with one to one with the Tamco HR1300 Urethane Reducer and 5% of HH 57 to ensure a smooth application and even coverage. 

The final step was top coating with HC 4105 Clearcoat overtop of the Oahu Blue Base Coat to give it a glossy finish as well as to provide a durable, glossy finish.

The clearcoat was mixed with fo Tamco 7600 Series Hardener (HH7607 Slow) to activate it, ensuring it hardened properly and provided a glamorous-style clear coat that gives a show car-style finish that wouldn’t break the bank.
