Our customer Cory ( @blkbettys13 on IG ) recently took on his first ever DIY automotive painting project using our Oahu Blue Medium Car Kit. Since he needed to do some body work, even out some flaking clearcoat, and remove some old failing paint he chose the "light body work" option of the kit. Also, since this is a drift car, we was only wanting to paint the exterior. For this reason he also chose "exterior only". Lastly, since he was painting in a heatwave he chose the "91-110°f" option when we asked what temperatures he would be spraying in! This made sure he not only got the right amount of product, but also the correct hardeners and reducers in the full paint kit! 

After a ton of hard work & following the included step by step instructions + tips & tricks card - Cory was able to absolutely transform the look of this car! After Cory sanded down the car, completed all the bodywork, and ensured everything was as smooth as possible, he applied two to three coats of 

AP-7541 DTM Primer. This step was crucial to even out the surface and prepare it for reblocking before applying the sealer.

The AP-7541DTM Primer-Sealer was mixed using 4 parts primer, 1 partAH 7100 Activator, and 2 parts Urethane Reducer AR-3000. It was applied over areas sanded with 150/180 grit, then block sanded flat to create a smooth foundation for the next steps.

With the surface fully prepped and sealed, Cory moved on to applying the Oahu Blue Basecoat to achieve a rich, vibrant color. 

The basecoat was mixed at a 1:1 ratio with AR-3000 Urethane Reducer for proper viscosity, along with 5% wetting agent to improve flow and ensure even coverage.

To lock in the color and provide a durable, glossy finish, Cory applied HS Glamour Clearcoat AC-4521, activated with AH 7100 Activator to ensure proper curing and long-term durability. 

This high-gloss clearcoat enhances the depth of the Oahu Blue while delivering long-lasting protection.
