This 2006 Dodge Magnum is a two-tone build by Ryan Brickel — Viridian Blue on the lower body and Diamond Silver on the upper, separated by a clean gold pinstripe. Ryan Brickel sprayed this Dodge Magnum from prep through final clear. The build runs the full Alpha Automotive Paint system: DTM primer-sealer in black, Viridian Blue basecoat on the lower panels, Diamond Silver basecoat as the upper-body finish, and HS Glamour clearcoat sealing it all. Two colors, one matched system, no brand-mixing.
Two-tone builds put more pressure on the masking and the basecoat discipline than a single-color job. Ryan's finish shows what's possible when both halves of the system run as designed.
The Color: Why Viridian Blue & Diamond Silver?
Viridian Blue is an ocean-like blue pearl basecoat — full coverage over black, with the kind of depth that lets the panel read deep blue in shade and lift toward turquoise in direct sun. It's a one-color pearl with controlled flake (10-60 microns), so it lays smooth across body lines without striping or mottling.
Diamond Silver on the upper body is a diamond pearl that sparkles silver in sun and reads near-invisible over black in shade — the classic black/color flip. Both colors are sprayed over the recommended black sealer because that's how the system was designed: black delivers full coverage, the intended hue, and the depth and saturation each pearl was formulated to show. Ryan Brickel ran the kits exactly as designed, and the panels are showing what these colors were built to look like.

Two-tone masking is where these builds live or die. Lay your darker color first (Viridian Blue here), let it fully flash, then mask the line cleanly with fresh tape and a backing line you can pull straight. Spray the lighter color (Diamond Silver) in tighter passes near the masking line — final basecoat passes from a slightly farther distance let the pearls lay flat and match the color depth on the rest of the panel.

Step 1: Strip and prep the body
Ryan Brickel took the Magnum down to a clean working surface. For your build, remove all old paint, rust, and filler down to clean steel or a sound prior coating. Block-sand body lines straight, repair dents and imperfections, then work through progressively finer abrasives. Two-tone builds especially need straight panels — any imperfection telegraphs through both colors.
Step 2: Lay the DTM primer-sealer (black ground coat)
Mix DTM Primer-Sealer (AP-7541) at 4:1:2 with AH-7100 activator and Alpha urethane reducer as a wet-on-wet sealer. Spray it black across the entire panel set — black is the ground coat both Viridian Blue and Diamond Silver were designed for, and it delivers the full coverage, true hue, and color depth each pearl was built to show. Tack clean, lay even passes, and let the sealer set up before basecoat.
Step 3: Spray Viridian Blue basecoat (lower body)
The Viridian Blue basecoat in the Viridian Blue Vehicle Paint Kit is ready to spray straight from the can — no reducer to mix. Lay 2-3 medium wet coats across the lower body, building coverage gradually until the blue is uniform. Final basecoat passes can be slightly farther from the panel to let the pearl lay flat. Watch for stripes and fix them while the basecoat is still working.
Step 4: Mask the line, spray Diamond Silver basecoat (upper body)
Once Viridian Blue is fully dry, mask the two-tone line cleanly. Diamond Silver basecoat sprays the same way — straight from the can, 2-3 medium wet coats. Diamond Silver runs subtle in shade and brightens dramatically in sun, so build to the effect level you want (subtle, medium, or full) and check under different light during the lay-down. The gold pinstripe goes down after both colors are flashed, before clear.
Step 5: Clear with HS Glamour, then cut and buff
Mix HS Glamour Clear (AC-4521) 2:1 with AH-7100, no reducer. Lay even, wet coats across the entire panel — clear locks in both colors and the pinstripe under one continuous wet film. Once cured, cut and buff to bring out the final wet shine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — every Alpha Custom Color basecoat is built on the same binder system, so they cross-spray cleanly under one clearcoat. The trick is matching ground coat: most pearl basecoats want black sealer for full coverage. If both colors recommend black, you can run them under one black sealer pass like Ryan did here. If they recommend different undercoats, plan a masked sealer step.
Black is the recommended ground coat for both colors because that's how each was designed to be sprayed. Black delivers full coverage, the intended hue, and the depth and saturation each pearl was formulated to show. For Diamond Silver specifically, black gives you the dramatic black/color flip — silver sparkle in sun, near-invisible in shade. White or gray sealers will produce a different effect entirely.
Absolutely — Diamond Silver is built for that. Spray a base of Viridian Blue for the deep blue color, then layer Diamond Silver pearl over it as a mid-coat for a sparkle-on-blue finish. Adjust the Diamond Silver effect level (subtle / medium / full) based on how strong you want the silver to read. This approach gives you the depth of a candy with the dimension of a pearl mid-coat — different from Ryan's two-tone masked build, but a great way to combine these two colors.
