1960 Impala before in primer and after in Roxy with Xenon midcoat

Before & After — sprayed by Chris Stewart

Chris Stewart revamped this 1960 Chevy Impala with a jaw-dropping magenta-to-orange finish — Roxy basecoat laid over a white ground coat and lit up with a Xenon Colorshift midcoat that shifts through pink, purple, blue, and gold. The whole build runs the Alpha Automotive Paint system: DTM primer-sealer, Roxy basecoat, the Xenon midcoat, and HS Glamour clearcoat.

Here is how the build came together — the prep, the products, and the steps to chase the same look on your own Roxy vehicle paint kit.

Meet the Builder: Chris Stewart

Chris Stewart sprayed this Impala on the same Roxy vehicle paint kit we ship to every customer, then layered the Xenon Colorshift midcoat on top for the extra shift. The system is the DTM primer-sealer, Roxy basecoat, HS Glamour clearcoat, plus urethane reducer, HS activator, and the TSS cheat sheet.

The Color: Why Roxy?

Roxy is an Alpha Custom Color candy pearl — a vivid pink base with a ghost shift of purple, blue, and gold, built for a white ground coat. On this Impala Chris took it further with a Xenon Colorshift midcoat, a colorshift that flashes purple, pink, blue, and gold as an effect layer over the Roxy base.

The result is that striking magenta-to-orange flip you see across the body lines. Both are bound in Alpha's pigment-controlled binder for clean, mottle-free pearl suspension and strong UV resistance, finishing glassy under HS Glamour clear.

Every Way to Get Roxy

Whether you're painting a full vehicle, a motorcycle, a guitar, or just touching up with a spray can — Roxy is available for every project size. Each kit includes matched products sized for the job.

💡 Pro Tip

A midcoat is an effect layer — shoot the Xenon Colorshift in light, even passes over fully-flashed Roxy so the shift builds gradually. Heavy, uneven midcoat passes are what blotch a colorshift.

What's Inside the Vehicle Paint Kit

These are all the products included in the Roxy Full Vehicle Paint Kit. Every product is already matched and compatible — no hunting across brands, no guessing on ratios.

DTM Primer-Sealer (AP-7541) — The white ground coat that gives Roxy a uniform, full-coverage foundation. AP-7541 DTM primer-sealer seals the bodywork so the color reads even across every panel.

Roxy Basecoat — The color coat. Roxy basecoat mixes 1:1 with reducer and builds in smooth, even coats.

HS Glamour Clear (AC-4521)AC-4521 HS Glamour clearcoat lays the deep, glassy gloss over Roxy and locks in UV and chip protection.

Alpha Urethane ReducerAlpha urethane reducer thins the basecoat to a spray-ready ratio for even, controlled coats.

HS Activator (AH-7100)AH-7100 HS activator catalyzes the HS Glamour clear so it cures hard, clear, and durable.

TSS Cheat Sheet — The TSS cheat sheet keeps every mix ratio and flash window at your fingertips through the whole job.

Optional Add-Ons

The vehicle paint kit has everything you need to go from prepped surface to finished paint. But depending on where your project is starting, these add-on bundles can save time and money on the prep and masking side:

The Complete DIY Process

Step 1: Prep & Bodywork

Every clean finish starts with the metal underneath. Block the body straight and knock down the old finish with OptiGrit abrasives before a single coat goes on — Roxy will telegraph every flaw left behind.

Step 2: DTM Primer-Sealer (White Ground Coat)

A white ground coat of DTM primer-sealer is the foundation this color lays over. Shoot it uniform and let it flash before basecoat so the color reads full and true.

Step 3: Roxy Basecoat

Roxy basecoat mixes 1:1 with Alpha urethane reducer and builds in smooth, even coats. Let each coat flash fully — patience here is what keeps the finish deep and even instead of blotchy.

Step 4: Xenon Colorshift Midcoat

Over the base, Xenon Colorshift midcoat is what creates the color-changing pop — laid in light, even passes so the shift builds gradually and evenly across the panels.

Step 5: HS Glamour Clearcoat

HS Glamour clearcoat, catalyzed with HS activator, is where the depth comes alive — it buries the color in gloss for that wet, glassy finish and gives you the UV and chip protection.

Step 6: Cut & Buff

Once the clear is fully cured, a light cut with fine OptiGrit and a buff brings Roxy to a mirror. Reference the TSS cheat sheet for ratios and flash windows so nothing gets rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The kit includes everything you need — DTM primer-sealer (your white ground coat), ready-to-spray Roxy basecoat, HS Glamour clearcoat, reducer, activator, and a step-by-step cheat sheet with mix ratios, flash times, and gun settings. Over 25,000 vehicles have been painted with TSS kits.
Not if you're using the vehicle paint kit. The Roxy basecoat included in the kit is pre-reduced and ready to spray right out of the can — no mixing cups, no measuring, no guessing. Just shake, pour, and spray.
No spray booth required. Many TSS customers paint in home garages. The keys are dust control (wet the floor, hang plastic sheeting), proper ventilation (at minimum a quality respirator and air movement), and following the cheat sheet for temperature and flash times. Spray when conditions are 65–85°F for best results.
A laminated guide covering every stage: mix ratios, flash times, coat counts, spray gun settings, and troubleshooting tips. It's included in every complete vehicle paint kit. Want it before you buy? Download the free PDF or order a free physical copy (just pay shipping).

A Roxy pink base with a Xenon Colorshift midcoat layered on top. The Xenon effect coat shifts purple, pink, blue, and gold over the Roxy, which reads as that magenta-to-orange flip across the body lines.

Yes. Roxy still reads brightest over white, so the Roxy vehicle paint kit ships with white DTM primer-sealer; the Xenon midcoat then goes over the Roxy as the effect layer.

Yes — Xenon Colorshift works as an effect midcoat over many base colors, or over black for full coverage. It is also available in an aerosol spray can for smaller work.
