Range Rover finished in Ford Pitch Black

Finished in Ford Pitch Black

This Range Rover came together in Ford Pitch Black — a deep, factory-accurate solid black. Finest Dips built it on the same Alpha Automotive Paint system TSS ships to every customer: DTM primer-sealer for the gray sealer, Ford Pitch Black basecoat, and HS Glamour clearcoat, all laid over the gray sealer so the color reads exactly the way it was built to.

Below is how the build came together — the prep, the products, and the steps you'd follow to chase the same finish on your own project.

Meet the Builder: Finest Dips

Finest Dips ran this Range Rover from prep through final clear with the same Ford Pitch Black vehicle paint kit we ship to every customer — no shop-only products. The system is the DTM primer-sealer, Ford Pitch Black basecoat, and HS Glamour clearcoat, plus urethane reducer, HS activator, and the TSS cheat sheet to keep the ratios straight. The kit you'd buy is the kit on this build.

The Color: Why Ford Pitch Black?

Ford Pitch Black is an OEMatch automotive basecoat matched precisely to Ford Pitch Black — a deep, true solid black. It's a 2-stage system, engineered for factory-accurate color and built to be beginner-friendly to spray and match.

As a 2-stage OEMatch color it goes over a gray AP-7541 sealer — the gray ground coat gives it a uniform foundation so the black lays down even and dense with no substrate read-through showing at the factory tone.

Every Way to Get Ford Pitch Black

Whether you're painting a full vehicle, a motorcycle, a guitar, or just touching up with a spray can — Ford Pitch Black is available for every project size. Each kit includes matched products sized for the job.

💡 Pro Tip

Even a solid black shows its work — build uniform coats over the gray sealer and let the clear do the depth, and Pitch Black lays down dense and glassy.

What's Inside the Vehicle Paint Kit

These are all the products included in the Ford Pitch Black Full Vehicle Paint Kit. Every product is already matched and compatible — no hunting across brands, no guessing on ratios.

DTM Primer-Sealer (AP-7541)AP-7541 DTM primer-sealer lays down the gray sealer — the gray AP-7541 sealer gives this 2-stage black a uniform foundation for even, factory-accurate coverage.

Ford Pitch Black BasecoatFord Pitch Black basecoat is the color coat — a factory-matched Ford Pitch Black that mixes with reducer and sprays over the gray sealer.

HS Glamour Clear (AC-4521)AC-4521 HS Glamour clearcoat lays the deep, glassy gloss over the color and locks in UV and chip protection.

Alpha Urethane Reducer (AR-3000 Series)Alpha urethane reducer thins the basecoat to a spray-ready ratio for even, controlled coats.

HS Activator (AH-7100 Series)AH-7100 HS activator catalyzes the HS Glamour clear so it cures hard, clear, and durable.

TSS Cheat Sheet — The TSS cheat sheet keeps every mix ratio and flash window at your fingertips through the whole job.

Optional Add-Ons

The vehicle paint kit has everything you need to go from prepped surface to finished paint. But depending on where your project is starting, these add-on bundles can save time and money on the prep and masking side:

The Complete DIY Process

Step 1: Prep & Bodywork

Every finish this clean starts with the surface underneath. Finest Dips blocked the Range Rover straight and knocked down the old finish with OptiGrit abrasives before a single coat went on. Skip this and Ford Pitch Black will telegraph every flaw.

Step 2: Gray Sealer (Ground Coat)

A gray AP-7541 sealer from the DTM primer-sealer line is the recommended ground coat for this 2-stage color — the neutral gray gives the black a uniform foundation to read factory-accurate. Lay it uniform and let it flash before basecoat.

Step 3: Ford Pitch Black Basecoat

Ford Pitch Black basecoat mixes with Alpha urethane reducer and builds in smooth, even coats until the black lays down dense and even across every panel. Let each coat flash — patience here is what keeps the color reading deep instead of blotchy.

Step 4: HS Glamour Clearcoat

HS Glamour clearcoat, catalyzed with HS activator, is where the depth comes alive — it buries the color in gloss and gives you the wet, glassy finish you see on the finished build. This is also your UV and chip protection.

Step 5: Cut & Buff

Once the clear is fully cured, a light cut with fine OptiGrit and a buff brings Ford Pitch Black to a mirror. Reference the TSS cheat sheet for the ratios and flash windows so nothing gets rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The kit includes everything you need — DTM primer-sealer (your gray sealer), ready-to-spray Ford Pitch Black basecoat, HS Glamour clearcoat, reducer, activator, and a step-by-step cheat sheet with mix ratios, flash times, and gun settings. Over 25,000 vehicles have been painted with TSS kits.
Not if you're using the vehicle paint kit. The Ford Pitch Black basecoat included in the kit is pre-reduced and ready to spray right out of the can — no mixing cups, no measuring, no guessing. Just shake, pour, and spray.
No spray booth required. Many TSS customers paint in home garages. The keys are dust control (wet the floor, hang plastic sheeting), proper ventilation (at minimum a quality respirator and air movement), and following the cheat sheet for temperature and flash times. Spray when conditions are 65–85°F for best results.
A laminated guide covering every stage: mix ratios, flash times, coat counts, spray gun settings, and troubleshooting tips. It's included in every complete vehicle paint kit. Want it before you buy? Download the free PDF or order a free physical copy (just pay shipping).

A gray sealer. Ford Pitch Black is a 2-stage OEMatch basecoat built to go over a gray AP-7541 sealer from the DTM primer-sealer line — the neutral gray gives it a uniform foundation for even coverage. The Ford Pitch Black vehicle paint kit includes the full system.

Because it's a 2-stage color (basecoat + clear), Ford Pitch Black is beginner-friendly to spray and match. Build even coats over the gray sealer and top with HS Glamour clear — that's what gives the black its depth and gloss.

Yes — Ford Pitch Black is available in an aerosol spray can, color-matched to the same OEMatch basecoat used on the full build.
