Pigment Compatibility and Application Versatility
Like all Alpha liquid pigments, including Alpha Tints, Pearl Enhancers, RAL Drop-In Pigments, and Alpha Drop-In Pigments, Leo-Nardo Gray offers exceptional versatility. It can be used with Alpha Pearl & Candy Carrier systems or mixed into traditional automotive paint, epoxy resin, Plastisol, Autoflex Coatings, Performix Plastidip, and Halo.
This flexibility allows painters to adapt the pigment to a wide range of workflows while maintaining consistent color quality and performance.
Mixing, Paint System, and Performance
This project uses an Alpha Custom Color basecoat formulated with a specialized binder for excellent pigment control, UV resistance, and stable suspension. The basecoat mixes at a 1:1 ratio with AR-30xx reducer, ensuring smooth flow, proper atomization, and even coverage.
AP-7541 DTM Primer-Sealer provides strong adhesion, flexibility, and fast drying, creating a reliable foundation for the color layer. The finish is protected and enhanced using AC-4521 HS Glamour Clearcoat, delivering long-lasting gloss, UV protection, and durability.
Project Step-by-Step Guide
-
Complete all prep work, bodywork, priming, and sanding following recommended video tutorials.
-
Block-sand exterior panels with 320 grit sandpaper and scuff door jambs, engine bay areas, and tight sections using a red scuff pad.
-
Blow off all sanding dust and thoroughly wipe the surface with wax and grease remover.
-
If applicable, paint door jambs and engine bay first, then allow them to cure for 24 hours.
-
Re-mask the project and wipe everything down with an anti-static wax and grease remover.
-
Mix and spray one medium wet coat of AP-7541 DTM Primer-Sealer at a 4:1:1 ratio using a 1.4 mm spray gun.
-
Allow the sealer to dry completely to the touch, then wait at least one hour.
-
Mix and spray the Leo-Nardo Gray basecoat directly over the sealer. Most applications require two to four coats for full coverage and effect.
-
Allow the basecoat to dry to the touch between coats.
-
After the final basecoat, wait approximately 45 minutes.
-
Mix and spray two to three coats of AC-4521 HS Glamour Clearcoat at a 2:1 ratio, recoating when the previous coat is just tacky.
-
Allow the finish to cure for 12 hours in a warm, well-ventilated area.
-
Unmask, reassemble, and enjoy your newly painted project.
