Polaris Slingshot with Egyptian Gold accents

Finished with Egyptian Gold

This Polaris Slingshot was refinished in Egyptian Gold — an elegant, luxurious solid gold pearl that lays down rich and full over black. The whole job ran on the Alpha Automotive Paint system end to end: a black ground coat of DTM primer-sealer, Egyptian Gold basecoat, and HS Glamour clearcoat, so the color reads full and true and finishes deep and glassy.

Below is how the build came together — the prep, the products, and the steps you’d follow to chase the same finish on your own project.

Meet the Builder: Slingshot Build

This build ran the same Egyptian Gold vehicle paint kit we ship to every customer — no shop-only products, no shortcuts. The system is DTM primer-sealer, Egyptian Gold basecoat, HS Glamour clearcoat, plus Alpha urethane reducer, HS activator, and the TSS cheat sheet to keep the ratios straight. The kit you’d buy is the kit on this Polaris Slingshot.

The Color: Why Egyptian Gold?

Egyptian Gold is an elegant, luxurious solid gold pearl that lays down rich and full over black. It’s built on Alpha’s pigment-controlled binder, so it lays down without striping or mottling, holds its pearl suspension clean, and carries strong UV resistance for a finish that stays true in the sun.

Egyptian Gold is designed to be sprayed over a black ground coat — that’s the foundation the color was built on. Over black, Egyptian Gold delivers full coverage and reads at its cleanest, with the deep, even gold showing exactly the way it’s meant to.

Every Way to Get Egyptian Gold

Whether you're painting a full vehicle, a motorcycle, a guitar, or just touching up with a spray can — Egyptian Gold is available for every project size. Each kit includes matched products sized for the job.

💡 Pro Tip

Egyptian Gold is a solid pearl — its richness comes from even, fully-flashed coats over black. Rushed or thin coats are what wash the gold out.

What's Inside the Vehicle Paint Kit

These are all the products included in the Egyptian Gold Full Vehicle Paint Kit. Every product is already matched and compatible — no hunting across brands, no guessing on ratios.

DTM primer-sealer — The black ground coat Egyptian Gold is built on. DTM primer-sealer gives the color a uniform, full-coverage foundation.

Egyptian Gold Basecoat — An elegant, luxurious gold pearl that reads full and true over a black ground coat. Egyptian Gold basecoat mixes 1:1 with reducer.

HS Glamour Clear (AC-4521)HS Glamour clearcoat lays the deep, glassy gloss over the color and locks in UV and chip protection.

Alpha Urethane Reducer (AR-3000 Series)Alpha urethane reducer thins the basecoat to a 1:1 spray-ready ratio for even, controlled coats.

HS Activator (AH-7100 Series)HS activator catalyzes the HS Glamour clear so it cures hard, clear, and durable.

TSS Cheat Sheet — The TSS cheat sheet keeps every mix ratio and flash window at your fingertips through the whole job.

Optional Add-Ons

The vehicle paint kit has everything you need to go from prepped surface to finished paint. But depending on where your project is starting, these add-on bundles can save time and money on the prep and masking side:

The Complete DIY Process

Step 1: Prep & Bodywork

Every finish this clean starts with the surface underneath. This Polaris Slingshot was blocked straight and the old finish knocked down with OptiGrit abrasives before a single coat went on. Skip this and Egyptian Gold will telegraph every flaw.

Step 2: DTM primer-sealer (Black Ground Coat)

A black ground coat of DTM primer-sealer is the foundation Egyptian Gold was built on — it’s what lets the color read full and true. Lay it uniform and let it flash before basecoat.

Step 3: Egyptian Gold Basecoat

Egyptian Gold basecoat mixes 1:1 with Alpha urethane reducer and builds in smooth, even coats until the deep, even gold comes up evenly across every panel. Let each coat flash — patience here is what keeps the pearl looking deep instead of blotchy.

Step 4: HS Glamour Clearcoat

HS Glamour clearcoat, catalyzed with HS activator, is where the depth comes alive — it buries the color in gloss and gives you the wet, glassy finish you see on the finished Polaris Slingshot. This is also your UV and chip protection.

Step 5: Cut & Buff

Once the clear is fully cured, a light cut with fine OptiGrit abrasives and a buff brings Egyptian Gold to a mirror. Reference the TSS cheat sheet for the ratios and flash windows so nothing gets rushed.

Yes. The kit includes everything you need — DTM primer-sealer (your black ground coat), ready-to-spray Egyptian Gold basecoat, HS Glamour clearcoat, reducer, activator, and a step-by-step cheat sheet with mix ratios, flash times, and gun settings. Over 25,000 vehicles have been painted with TSS kits.
Not if you're using the vehicle paint kit. The Egyptian Gold basecoat included in the kit is pre-reduced and ready to spray right out of the can — no mixing cups, no measuring, no guessing. Just shake, pour, and spray.
No spray booth required. Many TSS customers paint in home garages. The keys are dust control (wet the floor, hang plastic sheeting), proper ventilation (at minimum a quality respirator and air movement), and following the cheat sheet for temperature and flash times. Spray when conditions are 65–85°F for best results.

Black ground coat. Egyptian Gold is designed to be sprayed over a black ground coat — that’s the foundation the color was built on, and it’s what delivers full coverage and its cleanest, truest tone. The Egyptian Gold vehicle paint kit ships with the DTM primer-sealer for exactly this.

Yes. The deep, even gold reads across the Polaris Slingshot as the light and angles change, just like on the painted sample. Even coats of Egyptian Gold basecoat under a deep HS Glamour clearcoat are what carry the effect across the whole build.

Yes — Egyptian Gold spray can is color-matched to the same basecoat used on this build, so it handles touch-ups and small panels without a re-spray.
