Diamond Purple Pearl | Alpha Automotive Paint | Traditional Paint

Diamond Purple Pearl from Alpha Automotive Paint is a striking traditional paint finish designed for painters who want bold color depth, refined pearl effects, and professional durability. This custom pearl color delivers a rich purple tone that shifts beautifully under different lighting conditions, making it ideal for high-end automotive builds, custom artwork, and restoration projects.

This featured project by Stabin Cabin highlights the level of detail and craftsmanship that Diamond Purple can achieve when applied with precision. Her meticulous approach to surface preparation and paint application allows the pearl effect to stand out while maintaining balance across the entire piece. The result is a finish that feels vibrant without overpowering the surrounding design elements.

A Closer Look at the Diamond Purple Pearl Finish

Diamond Purple is formulated using an Alpha Custom Color basecoat system that focuses on pigment control, pearl suspension, and long-term UV resistance. Unlike flat purple finishes, this pearl midcoat adds dimension and depth, enhancing body lines and contours as light moves across the surface.

The color works exceptionally well for custom painters looking to create visual impact while maintaining refinement. Whether used on a full vehicle, accent panels, or artistic pieces, Diamond Purple offers versatility across multiple applications.

Alpha Automotive Paint products needed for this look:

- Diamond Purple Paint Basecoat Midcoat

- AC-4521 HS Glamour Clearcoat

Like all of the Alpha Custom Colors, Diamond Purple Paint Basecoat Midcoat can be topped with Alpha Automotive Paint Clearcoat or other good UV-resistant clearcoats. This flexibility allows painters to adapt the system to their preferred workflow while maintaining professional results.

Available Formats and Application Options

This color is available in Dry Pearl PigmentsAerosol Spray Cans & Vehicle Paint Kits as well. This makes the color accessible to both professional painters and skilled DIY enthusiasts working in different environments.

The basecoat is bound in a specialized binder engineered for excellent pearl suspension and color consistency. When mixed properly, the paint lays evenly and minimizes mottling or striping, even on complex surfaces.

Mixing and Product Performance

For optimal results, the Diamond Purple Paint Basecoat Midcoat mixes at a 1:1 ratio with AR-30xx reducer. This mixing ratio ensures smooth flow, consistent atomization, and uniform coverage across panels.

AP-7541 DTM Primer-Sealer is used in this process to provide outstanding adhesion, flexibility, and fast drying times. Once sealed, the surface is ready to accept the pearl basecoat without compromising color clarity.

The final step uses AC-4521 HS Glamour Clearcoat, which adds long-lasting gloss, UV protection, and chemical resistance. This clearcoat enhances the pearl depth while protecting the finish for years to come.

Project Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Complete all body work, priming, and sanding following the recommended video tutorials before beginning the paint process.

  2. Block-sand exterior panels using 320 grit sandpaper. Scuff door jambs, engine bay areas, and tight sections with a red scuff pad.

  3. Blow off all sanding dust outside the work area, then thoroughly wipe the surface with a wax and grease remover.

  4. If applicable, paint the door jambs and engine bay first. Allow them to cure for 24 hours before continuing with the exterior panels.

  5. Re-mask the vehicle or project and wipe everything down with an anti-static wax and grease remover to remove any remaining contaminants.

  6. Mix one medium wet coat of AP-7541 DTM Primer-Sealer at a 4:1:1 ratio and spray using a 1.4 mm needle spray gun.

  7. Allow the sealer to dry completely to the touch, then wait at least one hour before applying the basecoat.

  8. Mix and spray the Diamond Purple basecoat directly over the sealer. Most applications require two to four coats to achieve proper coverage and pearl effect.

  9. Allow the basecoat to dry to the touch between coats. Do not rush this step to avoid solvent trapping or uneven pearl distribution.

  10. After the final basecoat coat is dry, wait approximately 45 minutes before moving on to clearcoat application.

  11. Mix and spray two to three coats of AC-4521 HS Glamour Clearcoat at a 2:1 ratio. Apply each coat when the previous layer is just tacky to the touch.

  12. Allow the project to cure for at least 12 hours in a warm, well-ventilated area.

  13. If wet sanding and buffing is planned, keep the project masked during that process. Otherwise, unmask, reassemble, and enjoy the finished result.
